We are noticing more cases that a bone infection called Osteomyelitis is often found it the CT Scans taken on our older patients. Osteomyelitis is a bone infection and bones can become infected in a number of ways: Infection in one part of the body may spread through the bloodstream into the bone, or an open fracture or surgery may expose the bone to infection.

In adults, it can either but Acute (painful) or Chronic (often times No Symptoms).

Osteomyelitis Treatment

It is important to catch and treat this disease early or it can harm the overall health.  The best way to catch it is to detect it with a 3D CT Scan.  However, most dental office do not have a CT Scan. At Radiant Smiles Dental Care, our patients get the benefit of getting routine CT scans with their check ups.  This means that we are able to detect diseases like Osteomyelitis among many other diseases of the bone early and able to treat it before it becomes a bigger problem.

Treatment modality depends on the location and severity.  However, it is important to treat it so that it does not spread to neighboring vital structures of the body.
